The best trips, excursions and activities from Split for a half day or a whole day activity.
#1 Islands tour in speed boat
This is the best way to explore the islands of Split archipelago. A daily trip by speed boat from Split, somewhat expensive but certainly worth taking as it is a unique experience. The agencies are mostly the same per quality/ratio, heard of "Providenca agency" as a good choice, but would book on "get your guide" site, taking a look of course on rating. Get your guide web site: https://www.getyourguide.com/split-l268/ (search for 5 islands boat tour from Split, as this tour is usually denominated)

This trip should include at least 4 out of 6 best attractions in Split archipelago which are: 1. Modra spilja (blue cave) on the island of Bisevo 2. Komiza fishermen's village, island of Vis 3. Town of Hvar, island of Hvar 4. Zlatni rat beach (Golden horn), island of Brac, 5. Stiniva beach, island of Vis 6. Blue lagoon, Budikovac.
Must be included in this tour:
Komiža & Modra špilja
#Komiza, according to majority of locals, is the most authentic Dalmatian village. Small narrow streets, stone houses, fishermen's harbour and many great traditional restaurants for a fantastic seafood feast!

Komiza, island of Vis
The Blue Cave, #modraspilja, is one of the top attractions in Croatia. Modra spilja is a sea cave located on the eastern side of the small island of Biševo, about 4.5 n.m. from the village of Komiza.

Modra špilja, the colourful Blue cave on the island of Biševo.
#2 Island of Brac
There are 2 possibilities:
#2.1 Explore the island
by ferry from Split to the port of Supetar (operated by Jadrolinija agency)
then by bus/car/UBER
For Jadrolinija schedule and ferry tickets: https://www.jadrolinija.hr/
(Ferry line Split - Supetar - Split, journey approx. 50 minutes / 1 hour)
I would suggest you to visit first the Golden Horn beach (Zlatni rat) at the village of Bol. Zlatni rat is the best beach in Croatia and one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, with plenty of activities and rental options. Next, Vidova Gora (the peak of the island with spectacular views, can be reached by car, short drive from the main road Supetar - Bol). Vidova Gora is best to visit at sunset. Afterwards, maybe a dinner on your way back to Supetar- there are many great restaurants on the road back to enjoy the local lamb ... my favourite (and definitely among the best places to eat on the island) is Konoba Kopačina (address: Donji Humac 7, 21423, Donji Humac). If planning to eat there it is highly recommend to make the reservation; they are usually fully booked days in advance.

View from Vidova gora, the highest peak of the island of Brac and of all Croatian islands
It is recommended to depart from Split as early in the morning so to have all the day to enjoy (don't have drinks or ever kind on the ferries, they are very very expensive, would suggest you to buy before departure; there is a supermarket at the main ferry terminal)
The address of the main terminal (and the supermarket): Obala kneza Domagoja 15
For exploring the island the best way is by car. In case you don't have a car, UBER is the best alternative. Otherwise, you can use local bus (please note that there are no good connections overall and the buses are not so frequent) and/or private mini van transfers (you can see them parked in front of the ferry when you arrive at the port of Supetar).
If you wish an even more authentic experience, plan visiting also Pustinja Blaca (The Blaca Hermitage) and Škrip, probably the most authentic small village on the island
.
#2.2. Directly from Split to Bol (Golden horn beach)
The Golden Horn beach (ZLATNI RAT), is the best beach in Croatia: 500 meters long pebble tongue that frequently changes its shape due to winds, waves and sea currents is the best place to completely enjoy sun & sea, windsurfing, jet skiing and other water sport activities.

Zlatni rat beach, Bol, island of Brac.
Zlatni Rat Beach ("The Golden Horn"), located on the southern side of the island, is renowned for its unique shape and stunning natural beauty. This picturesque destination offers crystal-clear waters, perfect for swimming and water sports, surrounded by lush pine trees and breathtaking landscapes. Whether you're looking to relax on the sun-soaked shores or engage in exciting activities, Zlatni Rat has something for everyone.
TRAVELING DIRECTLY TO BOL
Split - Bol line is operated by Krilo agency (available only from 15.05. till 30.09.)
Schedule and online tickets: https://krilo.hr/en/sailing-schedule/
Departure at 8.30 a.m. from Split to Bol; return at 17.15 h (but if you wish to stay longer, you can take UBER from the beach to the port of Supetar and take the ferry to Split (the last ferry is departing at 22.45 h - Jadrolinija agency)
#3 Krka National Park
My favourite day trip from Split. Relaxing and interesting, #krkanationalpark tour offers a great number of places to visit, panoramic views to enjoy and things you absolutely shouldn't miss to do on this trip. Less than 1 h 30 minutes ride from Split you will discover an amazing beauty of the nature.

Krka National Park is a stunning natural paradise known for its breathtaking waterfalls, lush landscapes, and diverse wildlife. Visitors can explore the park's numerous walking trails and admire the picturesque views of the famous Skradinski Buk waterfall. The park is also home to a rich cultural heritage, with historical sites and charming villages that add to its allure.

TOUR OPTIONS
1) ORGANIZED TRIP (ON GET YOUR GUIDE SITE)
Get your guide site: https://www.getyourguide.com/
2) BY CAR
From Split to Krka National Park there are two ways: motorway and highway A1 (about 60 km of highway out of approx. 95 km of the entire road). The highway is recommended as it is the faster way to arrive; the journey is about 1h 15min, depedning on traffic conditions. The recommended entrance of Krka park is Skradin, a small city located at the estuary of the Krka river, from which you can take a boat ride (approx. 30 minutes journey) to the entrance of the park. A large parking lot (on payment) is located in the center of Skradin, close to the boat line pier.
If you are going to Krka by car, my suggestion is to visit also the city of Sibenik on your return.
3) BY BUS
From the main bus station in Split (Autobusni kolodvor Split) you need to take the bus to Skradin. The prices of the tickets are already from 10 EUR in one direction, journey approx. 1h10min up to 1h30min, depending on the bus agency. The tickets can be purchased online at traveling.com (recommended): https://traveling.com/en (Bus Split - Skardin) or you can buy them at the main bus terminal in Split. The main bus station in Split is located within the harbour area of Split, in the city center, therefore this is the most convenient way to travel from the city center of Split to Krka National Park. Main bus terminal in Split - Autobusni Kolodvor Split, address: Obala Kneza Domagoja 12.
PLEASE NOTE: It is highly recommend to buy your National park Krka tickets online prior to your arrival, as the number of visitors is limited (this in case you are not taking an organized trip with entrance tickets included in the price).

#4 Hvar
The town of #Hvar, located on the South-western side of the homonymous island, is one of the top summer destinations in Europe. An authentic Dalmatian old town, one of the most beautiful squares in Croatia, crystal blue sea water, great variety of places for fine dining and a spectacular view from the fortress of Fortica.

A great panorama from Spagnola fort (fortress of Fortica): the red roofs of the old town, a part of the defensive walls, city port & fishermen's harbour, archipelago of Paklinski islands.
TRAVELING TO HVAR
The best way to visit the town of Hvar on the Island of Hvar is by 50 min. / 1h speed boat/catamaran ride from Split.
Departures from Split at 9.00 a.m. every day. You can visit the old town and the fortress Fortica (Spanjola) with a great view over the harbour and the nearby archipelago. The sea at the island of Hvar is crystal clear and there are small beaches all along the town which are great for swimming and snorkeling.
Sailing schedule: https://krilo.hr/en/sailing-schedule/split-hvar/
#5 Trogir
The "small Venice", as it is also frequently called, the old town of Trogir is UNESCO World heritage site. A great concentration of masterpieces of art & architecture in a rather small space and the vicinity of Split, makes #Trogir one of the most popular half day trips from Split. In more or less 2 hours of walking, you can basically see and visit the most interesting attractions in the old town: the main town square, the cathedral of St.Lawrence, city hall, town loggia, city gates, the promenade, the tower of St. Marc and the most famous, Kamerlengo fortress (the entrance ticket price is certainly worth the view you will discover from the fort's wall). Other than by car or by bus, Trogir can also be reached by boat from Split, which makes this trip even more interesting, as it allows you to enjoy some great panoramas of Split and its surroundings, from the sea.

The old town of Trogir, UNESCO World heritage site; a small island separated by a channel from the shore and connected with the bridge to the nearby island of Ciovo.
Trogir is a small city, UNESCO World heritage site, located on the shore about 30 km West from Split. The best way to visit the city of Trogir is by boat, avoiding any traffic and bus schedule issues.
TOUR OPTIONS
1) BY BOAT
Boat line Split - Trogir is operated by Bura line: https://www.buraline.com/
Schedule and prices: https://www.buraline.com/img/schedule/timetable-trogir-slatine-split-2026.pdf
2) BY CAR / UBER
From Split to Trogir there is a statal road (free of charge); the journey is about 45 min. depending on traffic conditions, approx. 30 km from the city center of Split to the old town of Trogir. Attached to the old town of Trogir, there is a large parking lot (on payment) but it is usually crowded, so if you want to avoid queues and traffic jams, I recommend you to park the car on another parking lot, some 400-500 m from the city. This parking lot is also on payment, costs less than in the city center and usually you find space to park with no difficulties. The parking lot is located by the road approaching the city, on your left side, after you pass the gas station. From the parking you can easily walk to the city center in approx. 5-7 minutes.
3) BY BUS
Local bus line 37, Split-Trogir-Split. The main problem traveling by local bus is the time of the journey (more than 1 hour, as there are frequent stops on the way from Split to Trogir) and the location of the departure station in Split, Sukoišan bus terminal, which is located approx. 1 km from the city center. From the city center to the terminal there are approx. 20 minutes walking, otherwise you need to take the local bus or a taxi. On the other hand, the main bus station in Trogir (the last stop of the line) is located close to the old town, just few steps away from the city walls. There are frequent daily departures, approx. each 20-30 minutes. This is the most convenient way to travel from Split to Trogir and viceversa.
#6 Omiš & Cetina canyon
The breathtaking views, immense beauty of nature and picturesque small town of #omis, a great day trip from Split you will certainly love! The keywords to describe it: scenic sandy city beach (among the most beautiful ones in Dalmatia), the city of pirates ( extinguished nowadays so no worries, you are 100% safe here), the mysterious "house of the happy man", capital of "klapa", traditional Dalmatian a cappella singing, medieval fortifications, old mills, ancient myths and legends, fantastic panoramas, great food ... everything that is required for a perfect excursion combining a little bit to see, a few things more to visit and much of the time simply to enjoy and taste!

A great view of Cetina river canyon and mountains surrounding the city of Omis; in front, the island of Brac, in the middle, statute of Mila Gojsalic, the "Croatian Jeanne D'Arc".
TOUR OPTIONS
1) ORGANIZED TRIP (ON GET YOUR GUIDE SITE)
usually including canyoning, rafting or canoeing on Cetina river
Get your guide site: https://www.getyourguide.com/
2) BY CAR / UBER
CAR is required, the journey is about 30/40 minutes; it is recommended to depart from Split early in the morning to avoid traffic congestions. Also for return, I would suggest the “hinterland” road, Omis – Tugare – Split, instead of driving by the sea.
City of OMIS and the canyon of Cetina river are located about 20 km south-est from Split. This is a trip for nature lovers with some spectacular views and scenarios. The city of Omis is also known for its great sandy/pebble beach underneath the mountains. The canyon can be visited also by boat, departing from Omiš to “Radman’s mills” (Radmanove mlinice), one of the most visited attractions in the area.
3) BY BUS
Local bus line 60, Split-Omis-Split. The main problem traveling by local bus is the time of the journey (usually more than 1 hour, as there are frequent stops on the way from Split to Omis) and the location of the departure station in Split, Sukoišan bus terminal (Address: Licka ulica), which is located approx. 1 km from the city center. From the city center to the terminal there are approx. 20 minutes walking, otherwise you need to take the local bus or a taxi. On the other hand, the main bus station in Omis (the last stop of the line) is located close to the old town, a short walking distance. There are frequent daily departures, approx. each 30 minutes. This is the most convenient way to travel from Split to Omis and viceversa.
#7 Klis Fortress (Game of Thrones)
By car (UBER)
(some 10 km from Split), recently known as the site where HBO TV film Game of Thrones was filmed; great scenario/panorama/views - by car in 15 minutes

Experience the magic of Westeros with Game of Thrones tour from Split! Explore stunning filming locations and immerse yourself in the rich and captivating stories behind the iconic series. 2) BY CAR / UBER
Klis fortress is located in the village of Klis, about 17 km in the hinterland, North of Split. The easiest way to arrive from Split to the fortress of Klis is by the old road from the city of Solin into the hinterland. From Split, you need to take the exit from the town, following the indications for the highway A1. When you exit Split, follow the road towards Solin - instead of taking the exit to the highway, proceed straight to Solin and then turn right on the traffic lights in direction of Klis - Sinj. It is the old state road 6253, approx. 5 km of road up the hill to the fortress of Klis. The entire journey from the center of Split to the parking beneath the fortress of Klis is about 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. If you don't have a car, UBER (or BOLT) is the best and convenient option to reach Klis.
3) BY LOCAL BUS
From Split to the village of Klis there are 4 lines: lines 22, 34, 35 and 36.
Local line bus 22
Klis megdan - HNK (Split) - Klis megdan
The bus stop in Split is located in the city center; the name of the bus stop is HNK (Hrvatsko Narodno Kazalište - Croatian National theatre) and is located close to the theatre, address of the stop: Kazalisna poljana BB. This line takes you directly to the fortress, the last bus stop called Klis megdan (Klis fortress). The departures are not frequent, there are no departures on Sunday morning, there are frequent stops on the way from Split to Klis and the local buses are not comfortable at all. Nevertheless, this is the most convenient way to travel from the city center of Split directly to the fortress of Klis.
Local bus lines 34, 35 and 36
The main problem traveling by local buses 34, 35 and/or 36 is the location of the departure station in Split (Sukoišan bus terminal, which is located in Licka ulica, approx. 1 km from the city center) & the time of the journey (as there are frequent stops on the way from Split to Klis). From the city center to the terminal there are approx. 20 minutes walking, otherwise you need to take the local bus or a taxi. Another problem with these lines is the bus stop at the road near Klis: the buses do not take you to the fortress and there are no clear indications of the stop so you need to ask the driver where to get off for the fortress of Klis. Once you get off the bus, there are approx. 12-15 minutes walking up the hill, to the entrance of the fortress. On your return, if you choose to travel back to Split with these bus lines, you will need to come down the hill to the road (to the same bus stop you get off on your arrival) and you need to wave when you see the bus, otherwise, probably, it won't stop.
Ticket cost (valid for all local bus lines)
Klis is located in zone 2 of the local public transport. The ticket cost is 1,5 EUR / person (3 EUR IF YOU BUY A TICKET IN THE BUS); Tickets can be purchased at the bus, from the driver, payments are in cash. If you need tickets for more than one ride, you need to buy them at one of the sale points (payments in euro but in majority of sale points debit and credit cards are also accepted). Please note that when you buy tickets at the sale point, you need to show your ticket to the driver for the validation when you get the bus.
Bus tickets sale points
The bus tickets for one ride, 2 rides or a block of 5 & 10 rides can be purchased at the official sale points: Bus ticket office: Address: Ulica Ivana Gundulića 33 (at the bus terminal Sukoišan) & at the kiosk of Tisak and/or Slobodna Dalmacija (kiosks sell newspapers, tobacco, beverages, snacks, chewing gums, ... you can find them easily as there are many of them all around the city, as well as in the old town.
#8 Plitvice lakes
An amazing beauty of the nature. Plitvice national park, the first Croatian national park to be awarded UNESCO World heritage site, is one of the most beautiful and spectacular natural parks in Europe. The main attractions of the park are 16 cascade lakes (Upper lakes and Lower lakes) and the big waterfall. This trip is quite demanding as it takes at least 3 hours by car from Split to arrive at the park and it requires more energy and rather good shape to move around inside it. Plitvice lakes is a unique wonder of nature and it is definitively worth the effort, however, a private trip from Split is recommended, to save time and energy, and most of all, to manage seeing in one day the most interesting attractions in the park.

#9 Šibenik
The oldest native Croatian town, #Sibenik, is a real small gem all to discover and enjoy: 2 UNESCO world heritage sites; St. James cathedral and St. Nicholas fortress, other 3 fortifications with magnificent views of the city and the sea channel (St. Michael's, St.John's and Subicevac); narrow streets and mysterious hidden corners; numerous palaces, small squares and innumerable churches; lovely promenade ... and luganiga, authentic, aromatic small sausages traditionally made only in Sibenik, grilled, boiled or in the soup, whatever, it will make you fall in love with this city!

Main bus terminal in Split - Autobusni Kolodvor Split, address: Obala Kneza Domagoja 12.
#10 Zadar
The city with the most beautiful sunset in the World! Itself, it should be enough to invite you to visit the city of Zadar, less than 2 hours by car from Split. But Zadar is much more than a sunset (though that one is really inspiring, otherwise who knows where Alfred Hitchcock would have stayed elsewhere): magnificent Roman forum and the church of St.Donat, the cathedral of St. Anastasia, charming Kalelarga (the main city street); and "morske orgulje" & "pozdrav suncu", two modern public installations, simply delighting and impressing! The Sea organ (#morskeorgulje) is a kind of mysterious music instrument, a block of marble stones that provides sound from the sea waves meanwhile the Greeting to the Sun (#pozdravsuncu) is a powerful representation of solar system, producing a show of light, color and shapes.

Pozdrav suncu, Greeting to the Sun and fantastic sunset, a must see attraction and a must do experience on your trip to Zadar.

#11 Dubrovnik
The "pearl of Adriatic", #Dubrovnik is one of the most beautiful cities in the World. The old town of Dubrovnik is a real gem of architecture, UNESCO protected World heritage site. The visit of Dubrovnik definitely requires more than just a day, nevertheless, with some effort and good planning of the trip, you will be able to see, visit, experience and enjoy Dubrovnik even in a short period of time. Early departure from Split is certainly recommended as it takes approx. 3-4 hours to arrive by car, depending on traffic conditions. Once you are there, just don't miss: walking around the city walls, along Stradun (the main city street), lose yourself walking up and down the narrow town streets, have a drink in one of the bars on the southern side of the fort (with a great and relaxing sea view), swim underneath the defensive city walls & take the cable car up to the peak of Srđ hill, from which you will enjoy one of the best panoramas in Croatia!

A great view of Dubrovnik old town, UNESCO world heritage site: defensive town walls, city fortifications, red roofs of the old stone houses, small fishermen's harbour & crystal limpid waters of Adriatic sea.

Dubrovnik, often referred to as the "Pearl of the Adriatic," is a stunning coastal city in Croatia known for its well-preserved medieval architecture and breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea. The city's iconic Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, features ancient city walls, charming cobblestone streets, and vibrant baroque buildings. Visitors can explore historic landmarks like the Rector's Palace and the famous Franciscan Monastery, or take a stroll along the picturesque Stradun, the main street. Mostar is a charming historic city in Bosnia and Herzegovina, best known for its iconic Stari Most (Old Bridge), a UNESCO-listed landmark dating back to the 16th century. Its cobbled streets, traditional stone houses, and vibrant bazaars reflect a rich cultural heritage shaped by centuries of coexistence between different communities, making Mostar one of the region’s most picturesque and culturally significant destinations.
